What's Purple and Silver and 363 Days Away?

Submitted by whil on Sun, 10/02/2011 - 3:33pm

You got THAT right! We're talking about BarCampMilwaukee 7.

And we're taking requests.

Reply to this post with things you liked. Things you'd like added. Things you'd like deleted. Things you'd like modified. Things you'd like to help with. I've already started a list:

++ Food was epic. Thanks to Jenn and Jen and the pot luck providers and the late afternoon second soda run AND all those muscular young men who helped haul the Sunday lunch to the second floor. (And many others too numerous to mention.)

++ Bucketworks continues to become more and more like home. Those membership discounts expire today, so re-up now!

-- Name tags with 20% more stickiness. Maybe even 25% more.

-- Registration roster sorted by shoe size, not registration date, because everyone knows their shoe size.

What's YOUR $0.02? We're listening.

The T-Shirts have arrived. How to get YOURS...

Submitted by whil on Thu, 09/29/2011 - 7:23pm

1. You must be registered.

2. Show up at 9 am on Saturday.

3. We have plenty for everyone who has registered as of today.

4. First come, first serve for the rest!

What do they look like? Check out my tweet (around 7:20 pm) for the link to a sneak preview.

Saturday Lunch, redux. YOU gotta help!

Submitted by whil on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 4:38pm

The Amazing Jenn Turner has, with one flick of her finger, arranged for Saturday lunch's main course. (And Sunday lunch, but 'Sunday' isn't in this blog post's title.)

It's gonna be *wonderful*.

But we need some fillin's and fixin's. We need beverages. Munchies. Chips. Salads and other greenery. Munchables.

And sweets if the cookies and brownies that come with the main course aren't enough. (I'm thinking CAKE. BarCampCake, hmmmm, Amy?)

So - reply to this post or contact me separately  (@whil on twitter) to let me know what YOU are bringing.

T-Shirts a-go-go

Submitted by whil on Wed, 09/14/2011 - 10:21pm

The shirts are ordered. There's still time to mark down your shirt size if you haven't already, but I'd do it sooner rather than later if I were you. I'll be sending in the final counts in a day or two.

What's the winning design? What's the color combo this year? Will there be matching thongs? Why, you'll just have to show up on Saturday morning and find out!

WHERE are the programming sessions?

Submitted by whil on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 12:32pm

Doesn't anyone write software anymore? I see some pretty interesting stuff on Arduinos and 3D printing and a couple of other one-off topics...

But what about those computer things? Too old-school anymore?

There was a great session on software development processes last year, for example. Had some awesome talks about unit tests, too.

Software, anyone? Anyone?

T-Shirts! Official call for artwork.

Submitted by whil on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 12:29pm

Have you been busy with T-Shirt artwork ideas? That's *excellent news*, but it's now time to turn those ideas into artwork.

Here are the rules:

1. Artwork area is 12" x 12". Front AND Back.

2. Need art for the front. Probably should say 'BarCamp Milwaukee' somwhere, but that's just the alcohol talking.

3. Need art for the back. Probably should include the sponsor's names (not logos) somewhere, so we can hit them up for money next year as well.

4. We are going with a one-color* shirt, but if you have a compelling design that requires more than one color, The Review Committee** will listen.

5. Remember this will be screen printed. So, given the choice beteween big bold moves visible from far away and tiny, hard-to-reproduce patterns, which do you think will work better?

6. Use any software you want for creation, but don't expect me to be able to read Illustrator or Quark or Paintshop Pro. Assume the lowest common deonominator, which around here would be KidPix. Or maybe you could try a TIFF file.

Due date for design: Midnight, Sunday, September 11. Send them to me. (whil at hentzenwerke.com)

* Technically, the shirt will be one color and the ink for the design will be a second color.

** Interested in being on The Review Committee? I'm looking for two others to cast a practiced eye. If I don't hear from anyone by the design due date (see above), I'll let my kids choose one night during dinner.

And in case you were wondering, designs are due Midnight, Sunday, September 11.

If you need an extension on the deadline, I can accept submissions as late as Midnight, Sunday, September 11.

It's T-Shirt Time! Get That Artwork in NOW!

Submitted by whil on Mon, 08/29/2011 - 2:22pm

Folks!

We've got FIVE WEEKS until BarCampMilwaukee 6!

And that means (to quote the greatest actor of all time*), WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!

If you're interested in submitting a design for the t-shirts for this year's BarCamp, please get to work on it pronto. I'll have details about submission specs in the next couple of days.

Whil

T-Shirts. We haz them. In handses.

Submitted by whil on Thu, 09/30/2010 - 4:12pm

You know how sometimes the best-laid plans sometimes go awry? You run out of gas. You get a  flat tire? Not enough money for cab fare? Your tux didn't come back from the cleaners? An old friend comes in from out of town? Someone steals your car? There's an earthquake? A terrible flood? Locusts?

Well, none of that shit happened THIS time. I haz them t-shirts in my foyer, baby. Featuring Mike Rohde's award-winning sketchnote design. Color? Ha. I ain't tellin'. But you'll like it.

If you filled in the 'size' doo-hickey when you registered, you'll have one set aside for you all day Saturday. If not, first come, first serve.

And, yes, we have about a dozen in Little Kid Sizes for KidCamp on Sunday. How phreakin' awesome is THAT?

xoxo,

T-Shirt Czar

T-Shirt Design - Judges needed NOW!

Submitted by whil on Tue, 09/14/2010 - 9:17am

Now that we've got designs (and I suspect that one or two will roll in early this morning), I'm looking for a couple of others who will do the hard work of deciding which entry becomes the Big Winner, and who has to be sent away early with a copy of the home game.

Give me a shout at whil =at= hentzenwerke.com or, if you want to be public about it, respond here. We'll be picking a design - and a color for the shirt - and talking to the printer tomorrow or Thursday, so don't delay!

The T-Shirt Designs Will Roll Right In

Submitted by whil on Thu, 09/09/2010 - 11:14am

(With apologies to both Fang**  and Nirvana ****)

So, the T-Shirt Designs are rolling right in. Evidently, incessant whining, per HeyGabe, works better than I thought it would. Particularly since the deadline is Sunday, September 12th.

Here's the leading contestant. Think you can do better than this? I dare you to try. As long as you try by Sunday, September 12th.

A reminder or two...

(1) 12" x 12" on both the front (barcamp logo, et al) and back (sponsor list).

(2) We're guessing one color for the T (and a different color for the ink, duh...)

(3) Submit them to me at whil ==at== hentzenwerke.com. (Include 'BarCamp' in the subject line or I'll think you're trying to send me money from Nigeria or sumpin'.)

(4) Deadline is Sunday, September 12th.

(5) I need a third member for The Esteemed Review Committee.

(6) Awwww, I'm such a pushover. Deadline has been extended. It is now Monday, September 13th.

T-Shirt Designs due in 6 days

Submitted by whil on Mon, 09/06/2010 - 2:02pm

There is one week, less one day, less one hour remaining for the BarCampMKE 5 T-Shirt design contest.

Designs are due Sunday, September 12.

Guidelines:

1. We don't need no steenkin' guidelines.

2. Artwork area is 12" x 12". Front AND back.

Front for the BarCampMKE logo/design, and back for the sponsor names/design.

3. We'll probably go with a one-color** shirt, but, as noted in the previous T-Shirt-related post, if you have a compelling design that requires more than one color, The Review Committee**** will listen.

4. Remember this will be screen printed. So, given the choice beteween big bold moves visible from far away and tiny, hard-to-reproduce patterns, which do you think will work better?

5. Use any software you want for creation, but don't expect me to be able to read Illustrator or Quark or Paintshop Pro. Assume the lowest common deonominator, which around here would be KidPix. Or maybe you could try a TIFF file.

Due date for design: Sunday, September 12. Send them to me. whil - at - hentzenwerke.com.

T-Shirts! There will be T-Shirts! Submit YOUR design!

Submitted by whil on Mon, 08/30/2010 - 3:10pm

In a break from all breaks from tradition, The T-Shirt Process will begin post-haste.

Interested in having YOUR artwork show up on the front (and the back) of the BarCampMilwaukee 5 T-Shirt? Get those creative juices flowing now. This is the official call for designs. Designs are due Sunday, September 12.

Guidelines:

1. We don't need no steenkin' guidelines.

2. Artwork area is 12" x 12".

3. We'll probably go with a one-color** shirt, but if you have a compelling design that requires more than one color, The Review Committee**** will listen.

4. Remember this will be screen printed. So, given the hcoice beteween big bold moves visible from far away and tiny, hard-to-reproduce patterns, which do you think will work better?

** Technically, the shirt will be one color and the ink for the design will be a second color.

**** Interested in being on The Review Committee? I'm looking for two others to cast a practiced eye. Preferrably people with  large vehicles who can haul big boxes of finished shirts. If I don't hear from anyone by the design due date (see above), I'll let my kids choose one night during dinner.

And in case you were wondering, designs are due Sunday, September 12.

If you need an extension on the deadline, I can accept submissions as late as Sunday, September 12.
